Event Description:

Are you veg-curious? Do you want to know about the benefits of a plant-based diet? Are you already plant-based? Are you vegan? If so, the Saddlebrooke Plant-Based Group is hosting a plant-based potluck.

Saddlebrooke Plant Based Potluck (Oct. 19, 2026)

Event Highlights:

We had a good turn out for this potluck with about 26 people. We had about 8 dishes and 7 desserts items all tasting excellent (especially the dessert items).

Nancy Teeter, Nutritionist, was our guest speaker. She spoke about Protein including both sources and the amounts people need daily for seniors.

She described sources of vegan protein including the Lupini bean. She brought a prepared dish including this high protein bean from Italy. The casserole also included a pasta called Brami Italian Pasta made from Semolina Wheat and Lupini beans. This pasta is high in protein and fiber. It is also lower in net carbs, non-gmo and glyphosate free. One serving has 21 grams of protein and 9 grams of fiber.

Several questions were asked after her presentation. Leucine is very important for muscles and we need two to three grams per meal. It can be found in soy, milk, fish and eggs.

Calcium is important and we need 500 mg per day. It can be found in soy milk, dried figs, and sesame seeds to name a few.

Whole organic foods are preferable to supplements or protein powders.
